DECADE #1
July 1974-1984
On August 11, 1974 the first official meeting of the congregation of Evangel Pentecostal Assembly convened in Forest Heights School in the morning, followed by an evening service in St. Stephen’s United Church. Then on September 1, 1974, Pastor Albert and Violet Lindoff’s ministry commenced as Evangel’s first pastoral couple. For a period of about three years, the congregation met in the above-named facilities, and then on November 19, 1978 - 658 people rejoiced together in the newly built venue, located at 7907 – 86th Avenue, in the official dedication service. Pastor Lindoff resigned in January of 1979, finishing his tenure in May of that year. Pastor Craig Pitts commenced his ministry in July 1979, and ministered to the church and community until June of 1981. The congregation then extended a call to Pastor Keith Smith, and his ministry began in July of 1981 in the Senior Pastor’s role. The congregation increased in size and its ministry scope, including moving to two morning services. During the winter months of 1981-1982 the membership determined that an expansion was within God’s leading, and this was followed by a building fund campaign and planning. Subsequently, the building was extended and enlarged to 22,500 square feet, with the project being completed in January, 1984.
DECADE #2
July 1984-1994
As the church prospered, along with its slate of ministries, Pastor Smith and his staff continued to lead the church until July 1988. Pastor David Hazzard began his ministry as Senior Pastor in January 1989. A month later, the congregation voted to purchase a 14 acre parcel of land where the church is presently located. February 1992 saw the enlarged vision of relocating the church to the new property become a reality as the members voted favorably. At that time a stewardship campaign was launched to raise the necessary funds for the new building. In May of 1994 Pastor Hazzard tendered his resignation and departed for a ministry opportunity in Toronto. In November 1994 Pastor Bill Pipke assumed the reins of the growing assembly.
DECADE #3
July 1994-2004
The construction of our present location began in the fall of 1995, and the congregation relocated in March of 1996. Pastor Pipke resigned and moved to Chatham, Ontario in mid-1998, and shortly thereafter Pastor Bob Gal assumed leadership in October of that same year. Under his leadership “Love Edmonton”, a practical relief ministry, commenced. Successful Christmas dramatic performances that were interactive were held; “The House”, a college and career ministry proved beneficial; and the music ministry became one of the most significant within the Greater Edmonton area. Pastor Bob felt led to continue to lead his own organization, “Love Edmonton”, and resigned effective January 2005.
DECADE #4
July 2004-Present
During the long interim between Senior Pastors, Pastor Larry Lindoff, the first Pastor’s son, served as Interim Pastor. Pastor Wayne McNeilly accepted the call and began leading the congregation as of December 2005. The congregation has been expanding, along with its vision of becoming a Purpose-Driven Church, marked by an emphasis on small group ministry.
